LAWYERS / CATHERINE MERRETT

Cathy Merrett is one of the original partners of TingleMerrett LLP and has been practicing corporate commercial law for more than 20 years.
The majority of her practice focuses on private equity transactions and structuring. Cathy acts for a number of venture capital funds, sub-debt lenders, banks and institutional investors. She has assisted in setting up and organizing of a number of private equity funds in Canada. In addition, she has significant experience in working with funds in completing their investments in portfolio companies and assisting with mergers and acquisitions, follow-ons and various exit structures and strategies.
Cathy also has significant experience in acting for buyers and sellers of a variety of businesses and entities and has helped many clients successfully complete a range of acquisitions, divestitutres, mergers, reorganizations and re-capitalizations.
Cathy attended the University of Alberta, Faculty of Arts (English) from 1987- 1989, following which she obtained early admission to the Faculty of Law. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta in 1992, and then articled at the Calgary office of a large national firm, prior to joining TingleMerrett LLP in 1996.
In the past, Cathy has been one of the instructors of a corporate finance course at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law and taught the Business Section of the Alberta Bar Admission Course.
Cathy is a past director of the YWCA of Calgary and also advises several not-for-profit community organizations.
